A licensed captain is the difference between a boat you own and a boat you use. Some owners want to run her themselves and need someone alongside until they are confident. Some want a captain for the long runs and the tricky days. Some need a delivery done properly while they are somewhere else.
We provide captains for all of it, and the captain learns your boat before he ever takes the helm.
What we do
Before any of it, every captain goes through the boat. Systems, quirks, handling. No captain of ours takes a boat out cold, and that familiarisation is the part that makes the rest of it safe.
From there the work splits into a few kinds. Deliveries, getting her where she needs to be, planned around weather and tide rather than around a deadline, with you told where she is and when she arrived. Charter and day running, so you can have guests aboard and actually be present with them instead of docking under pressure. And sea trials and survey runs, where it matters that the captain knows what a surveyor is going to ask for and can run the boat to the numbers.
We also teach. Docking, close quarters handling, systems, and the things nobody explains when you buy a boat. Most owners want a handful of sessions at the helm rather than a course, and that is usually enough.
What you would notice first
You avoid taking her out on windy days. You have guests coming and the docking is the part you are dreading. She has not moved in two months because the trip felt like too much to organize.
Common questions
Are your captains licensed and insured?
Yes. We will confirm the credentials for any job before it is booked.
Can a captain teach me rather than just drive?
That is one of the most common requests we get. Most owners are a few sessions away from confident, particularly on docking.
How much notice do you need?
The more the better, but short notice cover is part of what we do, particularly when another captain has fallen through.
