Marine audio fails differently to anything in a house. Salt gets into speaker surrounds, amplifiers cook in unventilated lockers, and wiring run without marine grade tinned cable corrodes quietly until a zone stops working. Most systems we are called about were not badly chosen, they were badly installed.
We coordinate marine audio through specialists we use regularly. They carry out and stand behind their own work, and we manage the job and the boat around it.
What we do
Installations run from cockpit speakers to full boat systems with zones, planned around how the boat is actually used rather than around a product list. Amplifiers are sized and mounted where they can breathe, wired properly and protected, because most amplifier failures on boats are heat and power rather than the amplifier itself. Once it is in, we tune it so sound is balanced across cockpit, cabin and swim platform and one zone is not shouting while another is inaudible.
We also fix what is already there. Blown speakers, dead zones, wiring faults, and head units that have stopped talking to the rest of the system.
Everything goes in marine grade, tinned wiring, sealed connections and components rated for the environment. That is the difference between a system that lasts and one that fails in a season.
What you would notice first
One zone cutting out or crackling. Speakers sounding dull after a season. An amplifier that shuts down after twenty minutes. Corrosion visible around a speaker grille. A head unit that loses connection.

Can you upgrade without rewiring the whole boat?
Often, yes. We would look at what is already there before assuming it needs replacing.
Why did my speakers fail so quickly?
Usually because they were not marine rated, or the wiring behind them was not tinned. Both are visible once someone opens it up.
Can you work around a refit?
Yes, and it is the cheapest time to do it, while panels are already off.
